I guess it’s important, right?

Two or three times a week, I lift moderate weights in the garage gym. On the off days, I walk through the park to build my Army of Crows.

[Not a soldier in my army…yet. Also, I guess they aren’t crows]

A simple little Fitbit (the Flex 2) handles the step counting. It’s been with me for over 5 years now, so it knows me. But my walks through the park often aren’t enough to reach my daily step count goal on their own, so I find that I hit the threshold doing mundane things around the house.

One time I reached the goal, brushing my hand through my hair while on a call with Allen. Another time it was cutting up a steak for dinner. It all counts though, right?

Little actions like that are how we approach our writing, reaching daily and weekly word  count goals. It’s not about knocking out 10,000 words in a day or two, it’s often just doing a little every chance you get.

Always move forward when possible.

It’s fine to pause for a bit, though. Just don’t fall backward, if you can help it. It’s helpful to keep the fire stoked, even at a low burn, until you’re ready to proceed.

Building that momentum is instrumental in accomplishing the major goals in life. Not by grinding yourself down to dust every day. Sometimes you hit 10,000 steps while walking to the bathroom.

It counts.
